Schoenbrunn Palace, Vienna The journey to Central and Eastern Europe begins in Berlin, to see historic and inspiring sites including: Brandenburg Gate, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Charlottenburg Palace, and the restored Reichstag. Pass through the area known as "Check Point Charlie" and see remains of the infamous Berlin Wall. From Berlin, travel to the "Golden City" of Prague. Stroll across Charles Bridge, lined with centuries-old statues. Visit Hradcany Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, and tour the Old Town to see the Church of St. Nicholas and the Astronomical Clock & Tower. Tour the reconstructed Jewish Quarter and see its historic cemetery and museum of history and culture. In Vienna, the city tour showcases architectural marvels like the gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral and the lavish Schoenbrunn Palace, summer retreat of the Habsburg dynasty for 200 years. Budapest, your home for two nights, is often referred to as "the Paris of eastern Europe". The tour includes visits to Fisherman's Bastion, Mathias Church, Hero's Square, Gellert Hill, the New Parliament, and the Old Buda district. Travel through Slovakia into Poland. In Krakow, see the historic Market Square, St. Mary's Church, and Wawel Castle, former home of the Polish kings. Also tour the 13th-Century Wieliczka Salt Mines. Continue to Auschwitz for a moving tour of the former concentration camp. Visit the hallowed shrine at the Jasna Gora Monastery in Czestochowa, to see the sacred Black Madonna statue. Detailed Daily Itinerary:
Day 1: Overnight Flight to Germany Your journey to Central and Eastern Europe begins with an overnight flight to Germany. Appropriate meals will be served in flight and a movie will be offered for your viewing pleasure.
Day 2: Arrive Berlin, Germany After arriving in Berlin, your Tour Director will greet you and accompany you to your hotel, providing an orientation tour along the way. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a festive “Welcome to Europe” dinner.
Day 3: Potsdam – Berlin Your first day of touring will begin with an excursion to the regional town of Potsdam where you will see the impressive Sans Souci Palace. Returning to the center of Berlin, you will enjoy a comprehensive tour featuring visits to Brandenburg Gate, Charlottenburg Palace, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Schoenberg City Hall, the Kurfuerstendam, and the restored Reichstag Building. You will then pass through the area that was known as "Check Point Charlie," and see what remains of the Berlin Wall.
Day 4: Berlin – Prague, Czech Republic Today you will travel south from Berlin to the "Golden City" of Prague. After checking into your hotel, the afternoon will be devoted to visiting the historic Old Jewish Quarter, its ancient cemetery, the museum, and the Old and New Synagogue.
Day 5: Prague On the city tour of Prague, you will visit the impressive Hradcany Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral before embarking on a walking tour of the Old Town to see the Astronomical Clock and the Charles Bridge. This afternoon will allow some free time to discover more of this amazing city on your own. Tonight's dinner will be hosted at a traditional Czech restaurant.
Day 6: Prague – Vienna, Austria Travel through the very scenic Czech and Austrian countryside to the capital city of Vienna. An afternoon of leisure will provide you with time for shopping and sightseeing in the city center. Then, travel to the quaint wine-making village of Grinzing for dinner at Altes-Presshaus Restaurant, a centuries-old guesthouse.
Day 7: Vienna Your tour of Vienna showcases some of its architectural marvels, including the magnificent St. Stephan's Cathedral, and the lavish Schoenbrunn Palace, the summer retreat of the Habsburg dynasty. Vienna is a charming city with plenty of pedestrian lanes and squares to wander through as you soak up the atmosphere of this unique capital.
Day 8: Vienna – Budapest, Hungary Today, travel across the majestic Austrian and Hungarian plains to the “Queen of the Danube,” Budapest. With Buda on one bank of the Danube and Pest on the opposite bank, this fine city has plenty of scenic vistas and historic monuments to keep you marveling.
Day 9: Budapest The beautiful city of Budapest is often referred to as he Paris of Eastern Europe. Today your guided tour will take you to Fishermen's Bastion, Mathias Church, Old Buda, the New Parliament, Gellert Hill and Heroes Square. There will be time for you to shop and sightsee on your own this afternoon before dinner this evening.
Day 10: Budapest – Republic of Slovakia – Krakow, Poland A full day’s overland journey will take you through the incredibly beautiful Low Tatra Mountain Range of Slovakia to Poland. Once you have crossed the small Republic of Slovakia, you will find yourself in southern Poland, one of the most interesting and progressive countries of Eastern Europe.
Day 11: Krakow Your tour guide will show you Krakow's historic Old Town, featuring Market Square, St. Mary's Church, the university, and Wawel Castle, a former residence of Polish kings. This afternoon you will visit the amazing Wieliczka Salt Mines, which have been in operation since the 13th century. Tonight's dinner will be served at the time honored Wierzynek Restaurant, the largest restaurant in all of Krakow. Its traditional Renaissance interior is a sight to behold!
Day 12: Krakow – Auschwitz – Czestochowa – Warsaw Touring today will begin at the former concentration camp of Auschwitz. Travel from the camp to the hallowed shrine of the Jasna Gora Monastery in Czestochowa, where you will see the Black Madonna, an ancient and sacred icon. The journey continues north to Poland’s capital city, Warsaw.
Day 13: Warsaw The moving history of Warsaw, both joyous and tragic, is yours to embrace as you embark on a half day tour of this historic city. In Warsaw you will travel along the Royal Route and see the Royal Castle, the Cathedral of St. John, and the Old Town Square. All of these sites have been lovingly restored. On your final evening of touring, you will be hosted to a festive and memorable farewell dinner featuring an authentic Polish folkloric show.
Day 14: Warsaw - Depart for Home Your flight will depart from Warsaw bound for the United States. You will return home later this same day due to the change of times zones. |
