Detailed Daily Itinerary: Day 1: Overnight Flight to France Begin your unforgettable journey with an overnight flight to France. Appropriate meals will be served in flight and a movie will be offered for your viewing pleasure.
Day 2: Arrive Paris, France On arrival in Paris, the "City of Light," your Tour Director will meet you and conduct an orientation tour as you travel to your hotel. Once settled in your hotel, you will have some free time to become familiar with this extraordinary world capital. This evening, enjoy a memorable “Welcome to Paris” dinner at a restaurant located inside the Eiffel Tower. Following dinner, a scenic Seine River cruise concludes your first day in Paris.
Day 3: Paris Your tour of Paris showcases the breathtaking architecture of the Arc de Triomphe, spectacular Notre Dame Cathedral, historic Place de la Concorde, magnificent Place Vendome, and the Champs-Elysees. Then, spend time touring the Louvre Museum, containing one of the most impressive collections of art and sculpture in the entire world.
Day 4: Giverny – Paris Claude Monet's famous painting "Water Lilies" comes to life with a visit to the artist's lovely home and palatial gardens in the town of Giverny. This afternoon, enjoy a visit to Louis XIV's magnificent Palace of Versailles. Tonight, celebrate with an entertaining dinner show at Paradis Latin, Paris' oldest cabaret theatre. Enjoy fabulous cuisine, wine, and champagne, all accompanied by a fantastic French cabaret show.
Day 5: Paris – Bruges, Belgium A special treat is in store as you travel aboard the amazing Thalys high speed train from Paris to Bruges, Belgium. You are sure to enjoy the comfortable ride, complete with great views of the Parisian suburbs and the French countryside. Crossing the border into Belgium, arrive in the coastal town of Bruges, a quiet medieval city that served as the capital of Flanders. Tonight’s dinner features local cuisine in a traditional setting at one of the city's most popular restaurants.
Day 6: Bruges – Brussels Today you will visit and tour Brussels, the city of international renown and capital of Belgium. Your guided tour will feature the beautiful Laeken Park, the Baroque Grand Place, and the Town Hall with its soaring tower crowned with a statue of St. Michael. Visit a local chocolate factory and witness first-hand the process of making this most favorite of confections. Returning to Bruges this evening, an elegant French/Flemish dinner awaits you at the very popular Maximiliaan Van Oostenrijk Restaurant.
Day 7: Bruges This morning a local historian will guide you on a walking tour of medieval Bruges. In the heart of the city, see the medieval Provincial House, the Gothic Town Hall, and the Chapel of the Holy Blood. Filled with cobblestone lanes and surrounded by picturesque canals, Bruges is a perfect town for pedestrians. The afternoon is at leisure so you can take time to shop and sightsee on your own.
Day 8: Delft – Aalsmeer – Amsterdam, Holland Travel north into the Province of Holland in the Netherlands. In the compact city of Delft, visit the Royal Delft Pottery Factory where china and pottery have been hand-painted since the 17th century. A very interesting demonstration provides an insider’s look at this unique art form. In the town of Aalsmeer, attend a flower auction at the world's largest flower market. More than 80% of the world’s wholesale plants and flowers are traded at this massive market-complex. Arriving in Amsterdam this afternoon, enjoy some leisure time to explore the city before meeting your fellow travelers for dinner in one of the city's most popular restaurants. Following dinner, relax aboard a luxury barge as you cruise the canals by candlelight.
Day 9: Amsterdam Experience the magical charms of Amsterdam with a sightseeing tour that showcases the city’s most important monuments and sites. See the Royal Palace and the New Church on Dam Square. Tour the Van Gogh Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of the artist’s paintings and drawings. See the house where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis during the German occupation. And visit one of the local diamond cutting factories for a demonstration of this unique trade. This afternoon there will be time for personal sightseeing and shopping.
Day 10: Edam – Volendam – Amsterdam Today you will explore the manicured Dutch countryside and the very scenic southern part of Lake Ijsselmeer. Your first stop is the Zaanse Schans Open Air Museum, which recreates a typical 17th century Dutch village of wooden houses and windmills. Continue to the town of Edam, made famous the world over by its delicious cheese. Return to Amsterdam at day’s end for a traditional Indonesian Rijsttafel dinner at the Indrapura Restaurant, one of the city’s finest dining establishments. A little known “secret” is that most of the profits of this special restaurant support an orphanage in Melaya, northwest of Bali in Indonesia.
Day 11: Amsterdam – Depart for Home Departing from the ultra-modern Schiphol International Airport, your trans-Atlantic flight will carry you back to the United States, arriving later there on this same day. |
