France:  Remembrance & Royalty

Paris, Omaha Beach, St. Malo, Blois & Chantilly

11-day tour, including 2 nights in both Paris & Huppain Port-en-Bessin (Omaha Beach),

1 night in both St. Malo & Chantilly and 3 nights in Blois

 

From the Eiffel Tower in Paris to Monet's gardens in Giverny, from the beaches of Normandy to the Loire Valley, this tour introduces you to all that is quintessential France. Begin in Paris, the "City of Light," with dinner inside the Eiffel Tower and a cruise on the River Seine. See the incomparable monumental sites:  Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, Place Vendome, and the Champs-Elysees.  In Giverny, visit the home of Claude Monet and tour the gardens that inspired his famous works. Then tour the Memorial Peace Museum in Caen, the 82nd Airborne Museum in St. Mere Eglise, and the U.S. Military Cemetery and Omaha Beach in Normandy.

A picturesque ride takes you past rolling meadows and charming villages to Mont St. Michel, the impressive seaside monastery.  Visit St. Malo, a medieval walled city.  In the magnificent Loire Valley, explore the town of Blois, one of the most unique towns of the region. See the spectacular Chateau de Chenonceau, a jewel of Renaissance architecture, and enjoy a winery tour and tasting. Travel to the historic town of Tours and visit the remarkable Chateau du Blois.  In Chartres, visit the incredible Notre-Dame Cathedral, a masterpiece of medieval architecture and engineering.  A stay in your very own chateau in Chantilly will be a very fitting and luxurious end to an incomparable adventure.

Detailed Daily Itinerary:

Day 1: Overnight Flight to France

An overnight trans-Atlantic flight will transport you to France, a country of rich history and culture.  Appropriate meals will be served in flight and a movie will be offered for your viewing pleasure.

 

Day 2: Arrive Paris

On arrival in Paris, the "City of Light," your Tour Director will meet you and conduct an orientation tour as you travel to your hotel.  Once settled in your hotel, you will have some free time to become familiar with this extraordinary world capital.  This evening, enjoy a memorable “Welcome to Paris” dinner at a restaurant located inside the Eiffel Tower.  Following dinner, a scenic Seine River cruise concludes your first day in Paris.

 

Day 3: Paris

Your tour of Paris showcases the breathtaking architecture of the Arc de Triomphe, spectacular Notre Dame Cathedral, historic Place de la Concorde, magnificent Place Vendome, and the Champs-Elysees.  Then, spend time touring the Louvre Museum, containing one of the most impressive collections of paintings and sculpture in the entire world.

 

Day 4: Giverny – Caen – Omaha Beach

Claude Monet's famous painting "Water Lilies" comes to life with a visit to the artist's lovely home and palatial gardens in the town of Giverny.  In the city of Caen, which was almost completely destroyed in World War II, you will visit the Memorial Peace Museum.  This very special museum provides wonderful insight into the epic battles that took place along the Normandy coast.  Your day will conclude at a lovely hotel located directly on Omaha Beach overlooking the English Channel.

 

Day 5: St. Mere-Eglise - Arromanche - Omaha Beach  

The echoes of conflicts won and lost come alive as you visit the various battlefield sites of World War II.  Tour the 82nd Airborne Museum at St. Mere-Eglise.  Then, spend the balance of the day touring Point du Hoc, Arromanche, Omaha Beach, and the U.S. Military Cemetery.

 

Day 6: Mont St. Michel – St. Malo

A picturesque ride takes you past rolling meadows, charming villages, and tiny farms on your way to the monastery and village of Mont St. Michel.  Completely surrounded by water at high tide, this incredible village is a sight to behold.  Continue to St. Malo, a medieval walled city located by the sea, where you will enjoy the afternoon at leisure to explore the town's rich history and quaint shopping areas. 

 

Day 7: Angers – Blois (Loire Valley)

Begin today with a scenic drive to Angers, a center for the wine trade, whose the focal point is the handsome 13th century chateau-castle.  Continue through the Loire River Valley to the town of Blois on the Loire River, one of the most charming and picturesque places in the region.  There will be time for wandering about the town before dinner is served this evening.

 

Day 8: Amboise – Clos Luce

Travel to Amboise where Leonardo da Vinci was brought to work by Francis I in 1560.  Da Vinci ultimately died and was buried here.  Visit Clos Luce to see the amazing collection of models of Leonardo da Vinci's inventions. Continue exploring and touring the charming towns and lavish chateau of the Loire Valley.  Tour the most impressive Chateau de Chenonceaux, built over the River Cher – a “must see” for every visitor to this region of France.  This evening, enjoy a winery tour & tasting followed by a delightful dinner at La Cave Restaurant.

 

Day 9: Tours – Blois

Today you will visit Tours, where a guide will walk you through the historic town center with its numerous timber structures and abbey church of St. Martin.  Return to Blois for a tour of the remarkable Chateau du Blois.  Spend the rest of the day at leisure to independently explore this quaint riverside town.

 

Day 10: Chartres – Chantilly

Travel to Chartres and visit the magnificent Cathedral of Notre-Dame, one of the most beautiful and best preserved Gothic monuments in all of France.  In Chantilly, enjoy your final night in France at the splendid and elegant Chateau de Montvillargenne.  There will be time to explore the chateau’s lovely park grounds before joining your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner celebrating the end of a marvelous tour.

 

Day 11: Chantilly – Paris – Depart for Home

Transfer from Chantilly to the airport in Paris for your departing flight.  Your trans-Atlantic flight will arrive in the United States later this same day due to the change of time zones.

Special Notes: Pricing of a tour is always determined by three factors – 1) dates of travel; 2) number of participants and number of Tour Host Benefits required; 3) and, special features and sites that may be added to the itinerary at your request.  Generally, breakfast and dinner are included every day on “group exclusive” tours.  However, some dinners may not be included should you join a standard, regularly scheduled tour departure.
