The Incomparable Copper Canyon, Mexico

Four times larger than the Grand Canyon, Mexico's Copper Canyon is a spectacular region filled with natural beauty and unique cultures and traditions.  Exploration of this “hidden” part of Mexico begins in Tucson, Arizona.  En route to San Carlos, Mexico, visit the Mission of San Xavier del Brac.  Cross the border at Nogales and travel through the beautiful Sonora Desert to your beachfront resort hotel in San Carlos.

Step back in time visiting the colorful colonial city of El Fuerte (founded by the Spanish in 1564), situated in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains.  Enjoy a festive and memorable folkloric show. Travel into the Copper Canyon aboard the Chihuahua-Pacifico Railroad.  The amazing rail journey will wind its way through countless tunnels and over soaring bridges before arriving at Posada Barrancas with its amazing views of the canyon.   Members of the Tarahumara tribe will delight you with traditional dance and tribal games.  Visit the small church at Divisadero.

Continue to Creel, a charming town perched in the mountains. Visit the Mennonite settlement of Cuauhtemoc for a home-cooked luncheon before arriving in Chihuahua.  In Chihuahua, visit the home of the Mexican Revolutionary leader, Pancho Villa, and the state capital.  Crossing back into the U.S., the tour concludes in El Paso, Texas.
