Detailed Daily Itinerary: Day 1: Travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia This tour of eastern Canada is replete with pure beauty and fascinating culture. On your Canadian Heritage tour, you will be introduced to the historical and cultural treasures of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario.
Day 2: Peggy's Cove – Halifax This morning your Tour Director will guide you to one of the most picturesque spots in all of Nova Scotia, beautiful Peggy's Cove. Then, the scenic tour of Halifax will showcase the lush Public Gardens, the bustling waterfront, and Spring Garden Road, the center of commercial and social life in this fair city. There will be a great photo opportunity when the tour stops at the former British fort, The Citadel. This afternoon is at leisure to shop and sightsee on your own, and then tonight, enjoy dinner at the award-winning Pier 21. This famous attraction is an historic testament to Canada's immigration experience.
Day 3: Halifax – Miramichi, New Brunswick Learn about the history and culture of the Acadian people with a visit to the charming Grand Pre National Park. Grand Pre, French for "great meadow," is the center of the Acadian cultural renaissance. It was on this site that much of Longfellow's epic story "Evangeline" took place. Continue to New Brunswick where you will visit the island home of Le Pays De La Sagouine, an authentic Acadian village. Join the cast of characters who will entertain you with drama, music, song, and comedy, all set amidst a replicated 18th century village. This afternoon you will arrive in the quaint village of Miramichi, situated along a tranquil river of the same name. Tonight, be prepared for a foot-stomping good time as a group of New Brunswick's musicians entertain you with a memorable Atlantic Canada Kitchen Party.
Day 4: Miramichi – Fredericton This morning your senses will be aroused as you tour the Olivier Soapery. A unique interactive tour provides an historical account of the tradition and art of soap making. This afternoon you arrive in Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick, where you will visit Kings Landing Historical Settlement. Here, you can step back in time and learn the ways of the Loyalists who migrated north into Canada after the American Revolution.
Day 5: Fredericton – Quebec City, Quebec Today continue through the wilderness of Canada’s Atlantic coast to the historic and scenic French-speaking city of Quebec. The atmosphere of Quebec is so totally French that you might forget you are still in North America! Built on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, this unique city will provide a glimpse into the lives of the fur traders and immigrants who settled and tamed this beautiful region of Canada.
Day 6: Quebec City Experience the splendor and history of both Old and New Quebec with a fascinating sightseeing tour of the city. Sites you will see and visit include the majestic Chateau Frontenac Hotel, the Parliament Building, the St. Louis Arch, and the Place Royale, the site of the original settlement of Quebec City. An excursion outside the city limits will take you to the unique shrine and village of St. Anne de Beaupre. Tonight's dinner will be hosted at a quintessentially French Canadian restaurant.
Day 7: Montreal - Ottawa, Ontario Continue along the scenic St. Lawrence River to Montreal, the second largest French-speaking city in the world. Enjoy a panoramic introduction to the city including a tour of the historic and inspiring Notre Dame Cathedral. The balance of the afternoon is yours to independently explore the many shops and boutiques on St. Catherine's Street. Then, the tour will continue to Ottawa, the capital of Canada.
Day 8: Ottawa This morning’s tour will feature all the important capital sites: the Parliament Building, located on Parliament Hill, high above the Ottawa River; the Senate and the House of Commons; the War Memorial; the Peace Tower; and the inspiring National Library. Continue your sightseeing to the Rideau Canal and Falls, the Prime Minister's residence, the Supreme Court, and the Byward Market. Along the way you will see many of the city's beautiful international Embassy buildings. This evening you will be transported to Victoria Island at the heart of the city. Enjoy and experience an evening of Aboriginal cuisine and a dance performance.
Day 9: Ottawa – Kingston In the city of Kingston, first capital of Ontario, you will enjoy a scenic lake cruise among the spectacular 1,000 Islands of Lake Ontario. This pristine region of Canada offers many stunning vistas. This afternoon you will have leisure time to independently explore this delightful harbor front town.
Day 10: Kingston – Toronto Toronto is known as the “city of people,” a fitting name for Canada's largest city. Toronto's population is composed of a multitude of ethnic groups that have maintained the traditions and lifestyles of their ancestors. Today, an expert local guide will show you these various communities. The tour will feature the bustling downtown area as well as Yorkville, and you will see the Provincial Parliament and the University of Toronto’s impressive urban campus. An excursion to the observation level of the soaring CN Tower, will provide you with an unforgettable panoramic view of Toronto and the suburban areas surrounding this cosmopolitan city.
Day 11: Toronto – Niagara Falls – Toronto An interesting tour to the Niagara Falls area showcases the colorful Floral Clock and the fascinating Horticultural Center. You will see the Niagara River as you pass by the hydroelectric Sir Adam Beck Power Plant and ride along the scenic Niagara Parkway. Then, make a stop at the Welland Canal to see ships making their way through the river locks. This last full day of touring will conclude with a scrumptious farewell dinner in one of Toronto's most popular restaurants.
Day 12: Toronto – Depart for Home Today you are homeward bound following this unique tour of the scenic Atlantic Provinces. |
