The Blue Danube River, Austria In the "Golden City" of Prague, enjoy a tour of this fairytale city including visits to Hradcany Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. A leisurely walking tour of the old town showcases the unique Astronomical Clock, the Church of St. Nicholas, and the statue-lined Charles Bridge crossing the Vltava River. Travel through the Czech countryside into Germany and visit Passau, a charming city of Baroque buildings and meandering alleyways. Board your ship for a 5-night Danube River Cruise through Austria's Wachau Valley, one of Central Europe's most scenic and beautiful regions. In Melk, visit the 11th-Century Benedictine Abbey and its golden church. Continue to Durstein, considered the loveliest town along the Danube. Tour the15th-Century landmark pfarrkirche (parish church), originally built as an Augustinian monastery. Sail to Vienna to see the baroque marvels of Schoenbrunn Palace, home to the Habsburg dynasty for more than 200 years.

Detailed Daily Itinerary: Day 1: Overnight Flight to the Czech Republic Your tour of the Imperial Cities of Central Europe will be the cultural experience of a lifetime. Begin your tour with an overnight trans-Atlantic flight to Prague. Appropriate meals will be served in flight and a movie will be offered for your viewing pleasure.
Day 2: Arrive Prague, Czech Republic On arrival in Prague, the "Golden City," your Tour Director will meet you and accompany you to your hotel in the city center. This evening, enjoy a festive welcome dinner with your fellow travelers.
Day 3: Prague Today’s sightseeing of this fairy tale city features tours of the amazing Hradcany Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. A leisurely guided walking tour of the “Old Town” showcases the unique medieval astronomical clock and the statue-lined Charles Bridge. This afternoon there will be time to independently explore Prague's Old Jewish Quarter and its historic cemetery, synagogue, and museum.
Day 4: Passau, Germany – Board Cruise Ship Travel through the picturesque Czech countryside, crossing the German border to the charming town of Passau. Enjoy some leisure time to explore the town's baroque buildings and hidden alleyways. Late this afternoon, you will board the ship for a five night Danube River Cruise. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included each day during your cruise. This evening, enjoy a welcome cocktail followed by dinner while you cruise toward the Austrian border.
Day 5: Wachau Valley – Durnstein – Vienna, Austria This morning a sightseeing excursion will take you to the 11th century Benedictine Abbey of Melk. Continue to Durnstein, considered by many as the most beautiful town in the historic Wachau Valley. There, you will tour the landmark pfarrkirche (parish church) and you will have time to explore the charming town center. Your river journey continues to the grand city of Vienna, former capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Day 6: Vienna – Esztergom, Hungary The highlight of today will be a tour of the Schoenbrunn Palace and gardens, the summer retreat of the Habsburg dynasty for more than 200 years. You will also have time for strolling through the center of Vienna before setting sail for Hungary. The ship will pass by Bratislava, the picturesque capital of Slovakia, before crossing the border into Hungary.
Day 7: Esztergom - Budapest This morning, see the monument-rich city of Esztergom, home to the Archbishop of Hungary. Not to be missed are the neo-classical basilica and the historic royal palace. Returning to the river, sail toward Budapest, "Queen of the Danube.” Buda, sitting on one side of the Danube, and Pest on the opposite bank, combine to form one of the world's most beautiful cities.
Day 8: Budapest Your guided tour of Budapest includes visiting Old Buda, Gellert Hill, the Parliament, and Heroes Square. Additional sites to see are Mathias Church, site of many coronations of kings, and the Fishermen's Bastion with its fortress-like walls, towers, and arcades. The day will conclude with a farewell dinner celebrating your marvelous tour and cruise on the Danube River.
Day 9: Budapest – Depart for Home Today you will fly from Budapest back to the United States, arriving at home later this same day due to the change of time zones. |
